WHO AM I?

Hi there! This is Xin Liu! I’m a graduating Master’s student at Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism with a specialization in Business reporting. I finished my undergrad in University of Missouri-Columbia, where I majored in convergence journalism with an emphasis area in multimedia producing. I was born and raised in Shenzhen, the fourth largest city in China, spent my freshman and sophomore years in South China University of Technology before I joined an international program and came to the United States.

I’d say journalism chose me before I chose journalism. Growing up, I’ve always had a huge beast of curiosity inside of me that can be really hard to feed. As I tried to choose a major before applying to a university, I found it to be the hardest thing ever – I was curious about too many subjects and majors to chose one. So, I chose journalism. It didn’t take long for me to realize I’m at the right place.

My work experience has inspired my passion for discovering new ways of storytelling with the help of technology.  I’m currently working as a production intern at The Hill’s newly launched Hill.TV initiative, assisting with the launching and production of two new daily online-streamed shows. Before this, I have worked as a copywriter at Inside Unmanned Systems, a B2B magazine that covers unmanned tech-related engineering, policy and practice. I also worked as a digital producer at KOMU, an NBC affiliated TV station, and a reporter at Missouri Business Alert, a start-up magazine, both based in Columbia, Missouri.

I’m currently searching for internship opportunities and applying to grad schools.

tl;dr:

Curious by nature, journalist by trade.
