(You can be anywhere else on the World Wide Web, but you chose to be here. That’s something, right?)

Hi there! This is Xin Liu! I’m a senior at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where I majored in convergence journalism with an emphasis area in multimedia producing. I was born and raised in Shenzhen, the fourth largest city in China, spent my freshman and sophomore years in South China University of Technology before I joined an international program and came to the United States.

I’d say journalism chose me before I chose journalism. Growing up and starting on education, there was just something that made me feel different from many others – I’ve always had a huge beast of curiosity inside of me that can be really hard to feed. As I tried to choose a major before applying to a university, I found it to be the hardest thing ever – I was curious about too many subjects and majors to chose one. So, I chose journalism. It didn’t take long for me to realize I’m at the right place.

My work experience has inspired my passion for discovering new ways of storytelling with the help of technology.  To name a few, I have worked as a digital producer at KOMU, an NBC affiliated TV station, and a reporter at Missouri Business Alert, a start-up magazine, both based in Columbia, Missouri.Coming from a traditional journalism education background, I wish to make good use of what I was taught as I take a leap into the future.

I’m currently searching for internship opportunities and applying to grad schools.

Curious by nature, journalist by trade.
